 The Big Party!

Toronto, June 20th -22nd

Just like the name says…

Those of us that attended the BIG PARTY, did just that!

Judy, Adele and staff did a dandy job hosting the 1st annual summer event at the Regal Constellation in Toronto, CA.  (Same location as Dance & Smile :)

The Constellation is well suited for dance weekends featuring large workshop & dance ballrooms, several restaurants, plenty of guest rooms, plus it’s close to tons of downtown Toronto offerings -  let’s not forget Perkins all night eatery J

I didn’t hear any hotel specific complaints… check-in was smooth, service was good, rates reasonable, considering the BIG PARTY Toronto location.  Registration for the event was a breeze – very well organized like everything always is at any of Judy’s events.   They know not only are we there to dance & learn, but equally important: to HAVE BIG FUN!  I'm glad to have 2 great events this close to home J

What Time Is It?!?!?!

IT’S BIG PARTY TIME!

Dancers from these parts don’t need an excuse to cut loose n have a grand time on their own, BUT just in case we weren’t in da PARTY mood already, Judy & Co supplied some rilly cool PARTY theme props.  Everyone got an extra surprise w/ their registration packet, plus plenty of neat lil’ trinkets were available to help get in the PARTY spirit!

The early rate for an all inclusive weekend pass & step book was $70.00 US, or $95.00 CA. (If ya went to D&S you saved an additional $5.00 w/ a coupon for the event)

The instructor line up included lots of our fave Bigguns… Scott Blevins, Max Perry, Kathy Hunyadi, Gerard Murphy, Eve Yeaton, & Judy herself – new to this area for workshops were James Gregory of JG2, Bryan McWherter, Paula Frohn and Lewis Lee.

Lots of good stuff was taught. 50 sessions in all ranging from beginner to advanced dances.  Some we’ve been dancing for a while and some were new to this area.  Each instructor’s *most talked about* teaches included:

Scott Blevins – Like always - his are a given...

*Bidness*, *Infatuation*, *Who That*, Cheap Talk

Plus 2 technique classes

Max Perry – *Simply Sunrise*, *Rain*, *Wanna Be Me*,  What The World Needs Now, Walk Out Backwards, So Fine, Cross the Mersey, Sukiyaki, plus Line Dance Sport preview

Gerard Murphy – *What’s Up Lonely*, *Neutron Dance* Hillbilly Blues, Kickin’ In

James Gregory –  *Stitch It Up*, *Nasdravia*, *Sexy Stir Fry*, Boogie All Over, Sweet Romance

Kathy Hunyadi – *Love Won’t Let Me*, Just Like Dynamite, Bump & Hustle, Time To Get Down, Little Diva, Get Your Boogie Down,

Bryan McWherter – *Walkin’ Away*, *Phloor Philla*, *Say You Love Me*, *Drive*, All Kabobiled,

Eve Yeaton –  *Guilty*, *Hot Temptation*, What A Feeling, Everybody Dance Da Da Dum Dum, Don’t Keep Me Waiting

Paula Frohn – *Jitta Bug*, Beer For My Horses, Nasty Boys, My Perogative, Speakin’ pf the Devil,

Lewis Lee –  *Feel The Rush*, *Summer Fiesta*, *Woteva*, Boogalu

Judy McDonald – *Cool Whip*, *When I Leave*, Sweet Memories, Wake-Up & Warm-up classes

There were also review sessions slotted for each instructor throughout the weekend.  Those were greatly appreciated by everyone.

Gerard's latest...What's Up Duck?

Friday got off to a splashin’ good start with “Funshops” from 6-9 then two open dance rooms (anything goes & Country/Oldies) till 2 am, all having a beach theme night.  Lots of folks dressed up in their pool side attire & swimmies.  (Let us give thanks no speedo’s or thongs showed on the floor ;)  Both rooms kept the music playing late late late :)

Saturday’s evening dance theme was Everyone’s Birthday PARTY! More fun & silliness with folks sportin’ their party hats and gift wrap!

I s’pose we could give thanks no one showed up in their Birthday suit ;)

The only complaints heard that had to do with the dancing were those typical of workshops…too hot n sticky floors.  (It’s summer –  it’s hot & humid – go figger ;)

My thinkin’ is … it was MUCH improved Saturday night – so let us be thankful for that too!

Bryan and James did a mighty fine job tag teamin’ the DJ duties in the anything goes room, while Mike Bishop & Lynn Warden took good care of the country & oldies room.  There was something for everyone to enjoy and we did!

Everyone I spoke to said their requests were played.  Our gang danced up tons of stuff by request.  (Prolly, cuz we’re ALWAYS the last to leave, so we usually get to hear em)

We were all happy lil’ PARTY goers and had great fun till they finally kicked us out after many “just one more” requests.

The weekend workshop teaches were played throughout both evenings – luv dat!  Get to practice what ya almost learnt AND see all the stuff you missed thru-out the day.

The “overplays” heard during dance time were: Bidness, Phloor Philla and Guilty.  Great dances fo’ sho’ – just heard maybe once too often…

Till we heard it was "Buy a fan get a "Rosie" free day

Just in case anyone had their fill of dancin’…

There was a Karaoke PARTY DJ’d by Deb Levesque later on Saturday night.  Word is….there’s a song bird in our midst - Go Deb!

Folks I talked to had great things to say about Deb’s voice…and those that mustered up enuff courage to take the mic had a rockin’ good time!

Feeeeeling’s whoooaaaaa whoooaaa feeeelings..... Yea…..there’s a verra good reason some of us don't play karaoke ;)

Half the fun of the BIG PARTY weekend came from the instructors playful attitudes!  They were extra fun, social & silly all weekend long!  To everyone's enjoyment and delight :)  They all could be spotted playin' with dancers & props alike, or jokin' around n cuttin' up!

It was too cool havin' them out on the dance floors during open dance time and makin' their own BIG PARTY time fun!

Sugar & Spice & Horns & Tails ;)

All n all it was a GREAT BIG PARTY WEEKEND!

Thanks to Adele & Judy and everyone involved in the event!  Their hard work let us have a wonderful weekend filled with dancing, partying and FUN!

I enjoyed having a few new to the "Local workshop rotation" instructors round out the list of our regular favorites.  We learnt lots of great stuff we'll be seeing on the floors soon.  We had the chance to do some fun & different things with the inclusion of Karaoke, a mini LineDanceSport session, a day after amusement park fun day. ( I didn't attend - wonder what fun ya'll got up to ;) All this on top of our mostest favorite thing - DANCE!   Just keeps gettin' better all the time :)
