We had an incredible turnout for our 1st of
what looks to be annual, SLIP workshop. The response & comments were positive. Thanks for making
it such a great day! We had 37 pre-registered dancers, ending up with a
grand total of over 80 for the workshop alone! Include the evening's dance - we reached 100. Too cool!
Thanks for making the trip & spending the day with us! We
had folks from Lansing, Toronto & even New York!
All of the day's dances were well received - we should be seeing them out on
the floor very soon! The day's step sheets are posted below.
We started the day off w/ Timbits (the metric equivilent of brain food
;) & socializing. The bosses veto'd the teach demos ;) All of the morning's teaches stayed on
schedule, by 1:00 pm we had already mastered 7 new dances.
Time for lunch! Feed
back about the food was excellent & nice to hear. The menu included picnic fare - chicken &
biscuits, salads, desserts & watermelon. Tabletop spots were arranged w/ flowers, grass
& few ants for authenticity ;) The servin' line went a lil slow, with
the turnout heavier than anticipated...chicken ran short near the end :( There was still more than enough
food to go around.
By 2:00 pm we were back dancin' & learned 4 more, with a lil extra time
for open dancin' in between. At 5:00 we wrapped up with a fast review of the days teaches. Folks
enjoyed that too :)
The downside of the day was the floor, sorry...we did what we could to keep
it danceable - by the end of the night it did get too slick in spots. During the day with temperatures
outside in the 90's, even w/ lots of dance wax it was hard to get a good surface on it. The a/c unit had trouble
keeping up also - while it was too warm at times, it wasn't sweltering. We were able to keep it at or
below 70 degrees all day. We had fans for yas - they were not forgotten
like the champagne on New Year's Eve, only misplaced ;) Those were found Sunday - stashed away in a closet.
Leavin' somethin' out must be part of my job ;)
Bill, Ron, & Frank all did mighty fine jobs with their teaches
(Heather & I did nicely too :) The comments were that they all did great callin' the steps during music
too. For many dancers, this was their 1st workshop & most felt the teaches were very thorough. Everyone
I talked to had positive things to say for all of the dances - so I can't say what was the Fave O' The Day. Give them a look, we'll be dancing them locally. Don - the main man in red ;) kept us smilin' w/ his camcorder as he watched/taped us throughout
the day - can't wait to see the video! Lots of pictures were taken
- not by me tho, so we'll hafta wait to see those.
We broke up for dinner - Gratiot has lots of dining choices &
everyone took a lil breather...
The evening's dance had a few more glitches - primarly equipment sorta
DJ stuff - bugs w/ the lighting etc... Practice makes perfect I guess. I skipped the couples lesson -
get it in the next time, sorry about that...
So while there was plenty of room for improvement - it could have been worse our
1st time out. About 30 of the requests were played -sorry if yours was missed - never enough time.
I myself was lookin' forward to keepin' it goin' real late, but by 12:30 the
die hards (including me) were ready to call it a night & we wrapped up before 1:00. Be sure
to rest up for the next Club X dance on July 13th! We can make up for it in over time then :)
The other down side of the day for me was that Bill & Kay, our 1st registered,
couldn't join us:( We kept them there in spirit & hope to have them back on the floor with us real soon!
Thanks to all that signed their "card" and helped spread a lil sunshine to them :)
While we tried to thank everyone... I know I can't really say how much we appreciated
all the support & help we received. So once again...
Thanks to Ron & Linda, Bill & Nathalie, & Frank for comin' to share
their great new dances, unique talents & their enthusiasm! They all were so wonderful! I'm
so pleased they could spend the day with us!
Thanks to all the instructors & dance providers that came out
-and for giving us such great chances to dance - hopefully all of our new stuff will be out there soon :)
Thanks to everyone else who came - making SLIP so successfull! The
fantastic turnout still just amazes me :)
Thanks to Cheryl, Bill & Judy, Ellie, Pat & Don, Mel, Andy, Peggy, &
Vicke for tying up those loose ends for us.
Thanks to Noel & Harvey for the music and umm comic relief with
their own special style of dance - are they fun to have around or what? :)
While I got most of the credit for the day (Wasn't the Red, White, &
Blue quilt Heather made for me just gorgeous!:)
NONE of it would have been possible without the help so many people.
My class regulars & very good friends, who are always there for me whenever I ask - and
I asked quite a bit...My sincerest thanks to Denise, Julie, Lisa, Harvey,
Nancy, & Ginger. They put more work into this than you can imagine... I promise not to ask yas for anything again - uhh for at least a week ;)
Thanks to Heather for her partnership in this. SLIP came
about cuz we were talkin' one night about how much we would miss Hertha's Spring Fling & Buttercup's Picnic, two
of our favorite local events. We came up with the idea of combining the two to fill in their place. It
just happened to come about on this side of the pond, where distance made it practical for me to tend to some of
the local details. She put as much heart into it as the rest of us - just had to transfer it a lil further in the process
:)
Thanks again to my husband Brad, for understanding what I
love doing most - That's dancin' it up with all of you!!!
THANKS EVERYONE!
"If you have the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance!"
The Lee Ann Womack concert on Friday was very enjoyable, if a lil short.
It was well organized for a 1st time event :) She played several cuts off her new cd that I liked. I'm glad
we were able to get in some fun & relaxation on Friday night - before I worked the pants off everyone
;)
